WORKSHOP DESCRIPTIONS

Accessing Hapara Workspace and Other Tools in the Student Portal to Support Your Child's Learning
This session will provide an overview of some of the frequently used digital tools in the OCSB Student Portal, including Hapara Workspace, Google Read & Write and other apps and tools. Strategies and best practices will be explored to help you support your child in accessing learning and responding to digital content.
 
Today's Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA): Relationship driven behaviour change
This session will provide an overview of who the ABA team is, what we do, and how we do it. Learn about common behavioural strategies used in ABA and how to apply them in your home.
 
The Third Path: A Relationship-Based Approach to Student Well-Being and Achievement
This session will provide an overview of the Third Path framework. The concept of well-being and how well-being and academic success are linked will be explored .
 
Understanding and Improving your Child's Executive Functioning
This session will provide an overview of executive functioning skills and explore ways of improving these skills in your children.
 
The IEP Process: Collaboration and Student-Centered Planning
Join us for an overview of the IEP and how it provides a working framework for modified curriculum and alternative programming.
 
Strategies for Supporting our Children with Learning Disabilities
This parent workshop reviews the experience of students with Learning Disabilities, then outlines a range of both remedial and compensatory strategies with a focus on assistive technology.
 
Navigating Special Education for Children with Invisible Disabilities
An overview of Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) will be provided as well as ways in which it may impact children and families. We will explore how the school community can help support students affected with FASD. The process of developig and updating an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) will be explored as well as provide an overview of Coordinated Service Planning as a helpful community resource.
 
Separation, Divorce and Their Impact on the Well-Being of Children
Discussion on Separation and Divorce: Considerations for the well-being of children and youth. This presentation will focus on children's needs and possible reactions, as well as considerations and strategies for parents.
Physically Distanced but Socially Connected
"Physically Distanced But Socially Connected is a presentation that focuses on how you can support your adolescent in forming and maintaining social connections while staying safe during Covid. Topics will include: what makes a good friend, how your youth can be a good friend, how to safely connect virtually and where to turn if support is needed."
