Ottawa Catholic School Board Committees

The CSPA Executive is responsible for providing parent representation on Board Committees. CSPA reps may be CSPA Executive members, CSPA members, or any member of a school council.

Board committees with CSPA reps in 2009-2010 are:

Parent Involvement Committee: A committee focused on parent engagement in the Board. Funds from the Ministry of Education include $500 for each school council; base funding for regional activities and support for Regional and Parents Reaching Out grants (max $1,000).
CSPA reps: Joanne MacEwan (Chair),  Caroline Bachynski, Karen Delaney, and Patricia Walsh.
Board members: James McCracken, Director of Education; Cathy Maguire Urban, Trustee; Betty-Ann Kealey, Trustee

Safe Schools Committee: includes staff, union representatives, superintendents, trustees, and parents. Focus is on safety in all our schools for students, staff, and visitors.
CSPA reps: Karen Delaney, Mike Labelle. 

Pathways for Success: Focus is on at-risk students in our 7-12 grade schools.
CSPA reps: Joanne MacEwan, Cathy Philpott

Budget Council: A wide stakeholder committee.
CSPA reps: Scott Jackson (Elementary), Patricia Walsh (Secondary)

Policy and Procedures: Policy and Procedures Steering committee meets once a year in the spring. In January/February, the superintendents submit revisions and new policies to the Deputy Director of Education for review by the committee.

Catholic Education Foundation (CEFO): Foundation is supported by United Way; the goal is to reduce poverty in our Catholic Schools.
CSPA rep: Karen Delaney

Environment Committee: Focus on how to improve our school environment and save money.
CSPA rep: Caroline Bachynski

Special Education Advisory Committee (SEAC)
CSPA rep: vacant

United Way Committee: All stakeholders in the Board supporting the United Way Ottawa
CSPA rep: Joanne MacEwan

Workplace Safety: Focus on safety and developing partnerships in the workplace for students, parents, and employees.
CSPA reps: Joanne MacEwan, Caroline Bachynski

Director's Forum: Organizes professional development for Principals and school council members; usually takes place in February.
CSPA reps: Karen Delaney, Joanne MacEwan, Caroline Bachynski

Parish School Dialog Committee: Connects our parishes, schools, and home.

Aboriginal Committee: Joanne MacEwan
